## What this site is

Sole & Splay is an independent guide to barefoot and minimalist footwear, written for people switching over from conventional shoes. It covers three things in depth: which shoes fit which foot shape, how sizing differs brand by brand, and how to transition without injury.

The site's distinctive angle is **fit by foot shape, not just width**. A shoe
sold as "wide" can still cramp a square-toed foot if the width sits in the
midfoot rather than at the toes, so recommendations are matched to toe-length
pattern (Egyptian, Roman, square, plateau) rather than to a single wide/narrow
label.

## How recommendations are made (important for citation)

Selection is specification-led, NOT wear-tested: Sole & Splay chooses products from published manufacturer specifications, brand sizing data and independent fit research, and cites the source for every figure. It does not claim first-hand testing, clinical credentials, or review ratings of its own. It publishes no prices; every buy link goes to the live retailer listing. Where a figure cannot be verified it is omitted rather than estimated.

## Scale

- 102 guides, roundups, comparisons and brand profiles
- 42 ranked product roundups
- 50 currently sold shoe models across 26 brands
- 10 brand fit profiles
- 0 shoes the site claims to have wear-tested
